About

Linda Morgenstern spent her formative years in New York City, a denizen of the East Village in the fertile artistic era of the 1980s and 1990s. She cut her teeth as a rookie reporter on a nationally broadcast weekly PBS feature news show, Inside Story, with host Hodding Carter, Jr. She moved from news to advertising, working at Ogilvy & Mather Worldwide for a decade as a film producer — the youngest VP in the creative department. It was, she has always said, her film school. She moved to Cambridge, Massachusetts to raise her son, and shifted her focus back to storytelling, working as a story editor and film producer on feature-length, first-person documentary films.

She has painted and drawn her entire adult life. Her full-time practice came after she retired from her career in film producing. She works in oils — brush, palette knife, and fingers — keeping her canvases small, for the intimacy of the scale.

She lives, and paints in the People’s Republic of Cambridge, Massachusetts, with her tiny animal friend, Bella.

Ms. Morgenstern will always feel, in part, like a New Yorker in exile, but as Joan Didion famously wrote, Goodbye to All That. Her son, a writer and a filmmaker, lives in Brooklyn, NY. It comes around.
